Veterans: I have a special interest in veteran populations and military trauma. My graduate research focus investigated moral injury and PTSD in military populations and how art therapy can contribute to healing. Sometimes there are no words to express the pain. That's where non-verbal, action-oriented therapies can offer support. With over two decades of arts-based learning experience, and a comprehensive understanding of research, I integrate creative practices to promote emotional resilience and well-being.

My name is Ania Telfer.  I am a recent Master of Counselling graduate from City University of Seattle. I’m currently practicing as a mental health therapist and awaiting registration as a certified Canadian counsellor and provisionally registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Born in Tkaronto (Toronto) to Polish parents, I’ve been based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton) since 2006.

Beyond counselling, I’m a professional artist, and I hold a graduate certificate in Spiritually Focused Expressive Arts from St. Stephen's College and a BA in Communications from Concordia University in Montreal. I specialize in trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy, integrating experiential, somatic, and expressive arts approaches with neuroscience, attachment theory, and mindfulness. My practice supports clients in navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and emotional challenges, fostering deep healing and personal transformation.

My therapeutic approach fosters resiliency and hope with a focus on life-affirming interventions. I bring over two decades of arts-based learning experience and a deep understanding of research to my therapeutic work, using creative modalities to promote emotional resilience and well-being.

I’ve lived, worked, and traveled across Europe and Asia, speak several languages, and love learning about different cultures. Outside of my counselling practice, I enjoy yoga, a cozy cup of tea, creating art, and spending time in nature. I love water and horses and am currently involved in training a very cute service dog.

I am grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, those who have gone before us and we acknowledge those yet to come.
